By Classic Private Train 'The Montreal Limited' with Montreal & Quebec City

Fall in Quebec and Vermont is magical and while there are many ordinary programs, entirely by bus, no one offers a deluxe program by rail, least of all one featuring a classic private train ride on a glorious Streamliner from the golden age of Train travel. With a special train as our centerpiece, we have developed a leisurely and elegant holiday with fine hotels, great dining, personalized attention and much more.

Beginning on a grand note, we depart New York and other Eastern points aboard our very own 'Montreal Limited', a splendid and roomy comfortable 'Club car' with big windows, spacious seats, attentive staff, fresh flowers and open bar with all meals, wines & spirits included. Our journey by train is over the stunningly beautiful Canadian Pacific Railway from New York to Montreal, a day trip via the Hudson River Valley, through the Adirondacks and past Lake Champlain.

This journey was recently acclaimed to be one of the top ten train rides in North America by the BBC and we quite agree. The only thing that can make this visual feast even nicer is an Afternoon Tea with scones, cream cakes and Earl Grey tea as we roll north, and we have included this too! We invite you to join us! All Aboard!

Tonight is our special Welcome dinner at le Grand Café. (D)

DAY 3: October 13

Today is a magical day with all day free to explore and enjoy Montreal, as you like, at your own pace. We have intentionally not scheduled planned activities so this would be a fine day to further explore Vieux Port with its ancient buildings, the extraordinary Cathedral or perhaps simply to linger over lunch in a small café on Boulevard St. Laurent. Another option for today is the scenic train trip, easily done in a day, to Ottawa and back, aboard Via Rail. Ottawa is a treat with Rideau Hall, Parliament Hill and the National Art Gallery and for those interested, the tour manager will offer an optional day trip to Ottawa, leaving in the morning and returning in the evening.

DAY 4: October 14

We depart Montreal this morning aboard Via Rail for the scenic ride east to glorious picture perfect Quebec City, a jewel and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We have included a complete sightseeing tour featuring lovely Montmorency Falls, the famed Cidatel and the old town. Our hotel, the Loews le Concorde is situated on the chic Grande Allee, the Champs Elysee of Quebec City. We have left this evening free for you to enjoy this wonderful city. (L)

DAY 5: October 15

We depart Quebec City this morning bound for lovely Burlington, Vermont, a scenic drive through the countryside with a stop for shopping and lunch on-your-own. We will arrive at the Doubletree Burlington at approximately 4:30 pm. Later tonight, a special trip to The Essex for dinner at the four diamond culinary resort proudly featuring farm-to-table options with a focus on local ingredients. (B D)

DAY 6: October 16

This morning we are joined by a local guide for a wonderful day of touring. A special treat is a visit to the famous Von Trapp family home, immortalized in 'The Sound of Music' where we will enjoy a historical tour led by one of the Von Trapp family members. You will want to have your camera handy! Afterward, you will have free time to explore, shop and enjoy lunch-on-own in nearby Stowe, VT. What would a trip to Vermont be without a visit to an authentic Cider Mill? Certainly it should not be missed! But before our return to the hotel we stop at the famous Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory. And yes, it's before dinner. How indulgent of us, no!? (B)

DAY 7: October 17

Once again our local guide will join us for another wonderful day of exciting events and sightseeing. On our to-do list is the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory, The Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and the Shelburne Museum, considered one of the finest and most diverse museums of art, design, and Americana, with over 150,000 works on display in 39 exhibition buildings. We have set aside plenty of time for you to enjoy this venue and lunch is at leisure. We have a special and rare opportunity to visit a local vineyard this afternoon. An award winning winemaker is our host to introduce us to the robust flavors and the lovely setting during the first harvest of fall. We return to our hotel with time to freshen up before our special Farewell Dinner. At 5:30 pm we board the Spirit of Ethan Allen III for a dinner cruise on this superb fall evening in Vermont. We return to our hotel this evening for our final night in Burlington. (B, D)

DAY 8: October 18

Following breakfast in your hotel, the motor coach will take you to the train station in Essex. As you head to Connecticut and New York we hope you are filled with warm memories of your time in Vermont. (B)
