At Uncommon Journeys, we invite you to join us on a very special voyage of discovery which combines a journey aboard our own private vintage Streamliner train, the Great Western Limited from California to lovely Portland, where an overnight luxury hotel stay awaits you along with plenty of free time. With comfortable Pullman sleeping car accommodations, fine dining with our own chef (all meals, wines & spirits on this special train are included) and magnificent scenery, there is no finer way to travel to the City of Roses. Little touches abound: from welcome gifts and fresh flowers, to Afternoon Tea. Our guests enjoy not only vista-dome travel and Portland but sail aboard the Legacy on an epic journey in the path of Lewis & Clark, traveling by river all the way into Idaho. With extraordinary sights, historic 'ports' of call and a leisurely pace, this is possibly the ultimate Pacific Northwest holiday. Choose from four departures of our 11-day In the Path of Lewis and Clark train and riverboat tours departing June 14, July 12, and September 6, 2017.

New Trip! - Great American West

February 21, 2017
By Kevin R. Tam, President

Here at Uncommon Journeys, we’re excited to announce an all-new trip for 2017, our 13-day Great American West train tours departing April 9 and October 1, 2017. It is with great pleasure we debut this holiday that offers up a stunning collection of some of the greatest National Parks in the country, all in one elegant trip. Any vacation that includes Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce & Zion National Parks, plus an overnight stay at the Grand Canyon along with the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest along with two spectacular resorts, one at the start and one at the end of our trip in the form of Red Cliffs Lodge in Moab and the Hyatt Regency Tamaya, is an exceptional experience.  By combining it with our private classic streamliner, the Great Western Special our guests enjoy a style of overland travel that disappeared decades ago. Last but not least, our passengers will traverse two scenic routes by train, the fabled Denver & Rio Grande Western “Mainline through the Rockies” with a daylight passage through the Colorado Rockies and the daylight crossing of the Continental Divide at Raton Pass on our journey back to Chicago.

Hawaii In The Grand Manner

February 14, 2017
By Kevin R. Tam, President

While Hawaii is every bit as magical and enchanting as it was when Captain James Cook first came ashore, frankly, in recent years the experience of getting to and around Hawaii has become less enjoyable. Packed flights without any meal service, delays, airport hassles and, perhaps worst of all, a grim red-eye flight back to the mainland, not to mention packing and unpacking in order to visit three or four islands all make this not entirely pleasant.

Winter In Yellowstone

February 9, 2017
By Kevin R. Tam, President

It’s been a tough few months for America. This recent election has been more divisive than any in recent memory. As we try to put the animosity in the rearview mirror, here at Uncommon Journeys, I thought we’d take a different approach to doing so.  Nature can be one of the most relaxing, most soothing and most peaceful of all medicines for stress, anger or resentment. While Yellowstone is one of our most popular destinations during the summer, it is closed during the winter and that, perhaps, is when it is at its most therapeutic. Without comment, today we present some spectacular views of Yellowstone in the winter. Inhale. Enjoy. Exhale.
